Over the years, NKA has helped to pioneer certain aspects of the financial services industry - including the introduction of data maps that allow money management firms to quickly and easily assess the status of their data. Below is an early sample that aided in a client's assessment of data and allowed for a more-effective maintenance program. The example also provides a view into asset allocation across all platforms and asset classes which can assist senior management in assessing exposure.
About this data map
This map reflects a portion of the population of data fields across the spectrum of asset classes in a primary data table used in the central trading application of a major money management firm. A sample file was prepared from the universe of 72,550 securities in the table containing 803 unique securities. Averaging about 12 securities-per-asset-class (although ranging from as few as a single security to over twenty-per-class), each class was examined for the extent to which 226 fields were populated. Color-coding of field population helps to immediately identify deficiencies in data across the asset spectrum.
